Biography:
Dr. Yohannes Kinfu joined the School of Population Health as a Senior Research Fellow in mid-February. He joins the school from WHO (Geneva) where he was responsible for monitoring health-related millennium development goals (MDGs) and had managed WHO’s Statistical information System (WHOSIS) and the annual statistical publication on key health indicators, World Health Statistics, for WHO’s 193 Member States. Prior to that, Dr Yohannes worked as a teaching and research fellow at the Australian National University (ANU) and before that (and in between) he held similar positions in Ethiopia, Ghana and South Africa. Yohannes’ major interests are in the area of statistical and mathematical modelling of population processes and health outcomes. In the course of his career, he taught courses on forecasting and advanced demographic techniques, researched on a wide range of topics — including nutrition and poverty, fertility and migration, measurement of mortality and causes of death, inequity in health service coverage, health workforce dynamics and the demography of Indigenous Australians— and contributed to the World Health Report, WHO’s annual flagship publication on the state of the World’s health. Yohannes is a demographer by profession, with a PHD from ANU, MPhil and MA (with distinction) degrees from the University of Ghana and a Bachelor of Economics (with distinction) degree from the University of Asmara, Eritrea. Yohannes was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.Research Interests:
