The UQ School of Population Health has more than 100 researchers, 42 research support staff and 91 PhD students who work on some of the world’s most critical and emerging public health issues, including: Healthy Ageing; Global Health; Social, Environmental and Behavioural Determinants of Health Outcomes; Non-Communicable Disease; Infectious Disease; Longitudinal Studies; Life Course Epidemiology; Health Services; Health Information Systems; Biostatistics and Clinical Trials (see Specialised Research Areas and Methodologies within the School)

Research Highlights

  • SPH researchers have won nearly $5 million in National Health and Medical Research Council grants. The grants include the largest awarded to the University of Queensland – almost $1.5 million – which went to a team led by Professor Jake Najman. Professor Najman, who heads the Queensland Alcohol and Drug Research Centre, will lead researchers in studying the the causes of common mental disorders such as anxiety, depression and substance use.
  • 343 peer-reviewed journal articles in 2010
  • New Centre to investigate biggest impacts on women’s health. The Centre for Research Excellence in Women’s Health in the 21st century (CREWH21) will see SPH and University of Newcastle researchers collaborate on studies that examine how changes in the health system have an impact on women’s health.
